In honor of our Head Brewer Noah Cowles's Military service we have brewed a "Roggenbier" named 8th & I Rye (a nod to the Marine Barracks located at 8th & I Streets SE).
This Friday, December 27th, 8th & I Rye will be available on tap exclusively at participating Barracks Row establishments and a couple nearby establishments, each of which will donate $1.50 to The Fisher House Foundation (www.fisherhouse.org) for each 8th & I Rye pint sold.
o Molly Malone’s Capitol Hill Saloon (713 8th Street SE)
o Senart’s Oyster and Chophouse (520 8th Street SE)
o Lola’s Barracks Bar and Grill (711 8th Street SE)
o Boxcar Tavern (224 7th Street SE)
o Tunnicliffs Tavern (222 7th Street SE)
o The Pug (1234 H Street NE)
Following Friday night's release, 8th & I Rye will be available in Growlers (while supplies last) at the brewery during Growler Hours (2801 8th Street NE; Saturdays, 12:30 - 4:30PM), with $1 from each Growler sale going directly to The Fisher House Foundation.
8th & I Rye is a traditional Roggenbier weighing in at 5% ABV and has a faint whiff of earthiness in the nose reminiscent of rye bread. Up-front there is a mild fruitiness, a yeastiness, breadiness in the middle, follow by a slight spice. The body is considerably malty and has a pleasant, rich, off-white head when poured.
We're thankful for Noah's service as well as all the men and women in our nation's armed forces. We aim to give back in our own local craft brewery way.
